Meet the Queen of Pyrography

Well on Twitter at least 🙂 I finally got myself together and got back on Twitter recently. My poor neglected account had been receiving my Facebook posts but not an awful lot more. In my ‘other’ job as The Web Sprite (and my own web and social media help) I decided to implement a system to help me get back into Tweeting. Anyway, These #Queenof and #Kingof awards by www.theroyalconnection.co.uk  have taken Twitter by storm.  Inspired by the Queen’s Jubilee, Dylan Moore, CEO of the Aqua Design Group decided to start a #QueenOf day on Twitter which was run every Thursday from 9am to 9pm. These awards, and are awarded to women and men in business who manage inspirational and customer focused small businesses in the UK.   I have been creating Pyrography Art for over 20 years but I trained as an illustrator and Graphic Designer so it’s not the only thing I do but it is one of the things I love the best, so you can imagine that I was delighted to be award the #QueenOf Pyrography accolade by #TheRoyalConnection. I’m very excited to be a part of this group and look forward to connecting with all the other Kings and Queens of the Twitterverse 🙂...

Barn Owl Artwork

for Owl Transporter Box I was asked by Mr P of  I4Wood to provide some art work for the front door of an Owl Transporter Box that he was making to commission. I had no photo reference of the actual bird in question so treated it like any other project. Reference first and then pencil sketches to work out the layout of the piece.  I’d been given the panel which was marked out according to where the hinges and bolt would be going and left to ‘get on’ with it. The gallery below shows the work as it progressed and also the finished artwork on the completed Owl Transport Box. [Show slideshow] For information on the box and other fabulous wooden things, pop over to I 4 Wood If you want to keep up with my work then pop over to Facebook and give my page a like so that you’ll see the new blogs/artwork as it’s posted....

Anniversary Wine Rack

Did you know that the Fifth Wedding Anniversary is Wood? We were recently asked to make ‘something special’ for a lovely couples fifth wedding anniversary. After a little research we came up with the idea of a self balancing wine rack made from wood. We saw lots that didn’t balance but were helped and mostly saw single bottle holders made from machined pieces of wood that had no (for want of a better word) Heart. What we produced was a piece that still contains the essence of the tree that the wood came from, is unique and has custom artwork, specially designed for the couple whose anniversary it...

Special Commisions

Just so you can see the kind of work we produce when given free rein on a project, here are some prototypes and special commission pieces. If you see something you like or it puts you in mind of something you haven’t yet seen but would like to, then drop us a line, tweet it, email it, use the contact form or the Facebook page. We look forward to hearing from you x...

Summer Craft Fairs

It’s been a while since I have been to show my craft work at events, around ten years in fact. The reason I got back into it was being asked if I was interested in bringing some along to Staffordshires Bump2fives event and maybe promote my Commoner Gardener blog too. This led to a panic about not having enough stock and really made me get on with some art work, which I really always appreciate doing. On the day I held a ‘Plant a Sunflower’ Place on the stall and took along a few items for sale too. This is The Salad Express a great display for quick crops like lettuce or cress and interested a lot of the children on the day. The train is a prototype and can be commissioned in other sizes.   Plant Dibbers     I took some of my wood art along and set up the stall. Once all the compost and plant pots had been sorted I took a look around. There were so many fabulous stalls there including Simply Staffordshire, Michelle from Safe Hands Doula, Fairies of The Three Faries and Commando Dad to name a few. My 2 girls had an absolutely brilliant time having their faces painted & making wands with the fairies, playing on the Funsters bouncy castle, making things for Fathers day at the Scrap Shack tables and marveling at the really wonderful Sublime Science people along with having gorgeous girlie Henna Tattoos from Opal Aura. I was also able to give this specially made gift to it’s owner on the day. It’s a Cedar wood box (keeping the natural...
